Present tense

We use present tense with all affirmations as a way to “trick” our brains into believing what we are telling ourselves. This is also a way to eliminate any doubt or negative wording that would come with using a past or a future tense. As an example, instead of saying something like “I will be strong when…” it turns into “I am strong now”. This also takes away any external validation you may be tying your goals to. Little reminder, we are all humans who were born worthy and valid and in the long run nothing outside of us will change how we feel or treat ourselves on the inside.

Personal

Affirmations need to be believable to you in order for your subconscious to not just snub them off. Some of the examples of affirmations I list might not work for you and that’s okay! By the end of this I’m hoping I’ve given you the tools to adjust or create your own positive affirmations that you can take with you in your everyday life. An example of making something more personal for you could be instead of “I am happy” we could say “I choose to focus on the things that bring me comfort and joy” or “I create my own version of happiness every day”. The “I am happy” affirmation can feel forced and trigger self-doubt but the others listed feel more realistic and achievable and that is exactly what we’re looking for.

Positive

I think this one is pretty self explanatory, but like I stated before, we want to take away any negative wording when speaking our affirmations. Instead of saying “I’m not lazy” we could say “I choose to show up for myself consistently”. This brings us into a more positive approach that is motivating and encouraging :). We don’t need to tear ourselves down in order to build ourselves back up <3.
